Non-Structured PSS Facilitators

About Us:

The Lotus Flower is a non-governmental organization which empowers vulnerable women and girls so that they are safe, have opportunities to learn, the tools to become financially independent and the freedom to lead change. We provide safe social spaces inside refugee camps and implement projects to help them rebuild their lives and earn a living. We run four women’s centers for the IDP, refugee and host community in Kurdistan 

Our programs are based around pillars from the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals:

Our centers implement much-needed livelihood training, language courses, computer training, mental health support, fitness and health training, and awareness sessions and advocacy on women's rights and gender-based violence. 

We aim to provide the foundation for women to rebuild themselves, their families, and their futures. As local implementers, we work at the grassroots level to get right into the heart of communities, listening to local needs and employing local women to implement the programs. Our fundamental belief is that women and girls are powerful drivers of change, and we provide the support they need to reach their full potential and rebuild their futures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Planning, implementation and supervision of activities

·       Contribute to planning PSS (psychosocial support) and outreach activities, according to the needs of children, and in collaboration with animators.

·       Work with beneficiaries in the design and implement children development activities as designed by TLF and which are culturally appropriate and take into consideration children with special needs.

·       Implement structured and sustained recreational, creative and sport activities with a psychosocial support aim. Combine quality and technical implementation with a child-friendly approach.

·       Lead and support outreach activities including awareness-raising, focus group discussions, community gatherings with caregivers, etc. Actively seek the participation of caregivers and encourage community-led and community-supported activities.

·       Proactively promote the participation of children with disabilities, marginalized children in project activities.

·       Supervise and coach PSS facilitator, in order to ensure an effective, safe and stimulating implementation of project activities.

    Child Safeguarding

·       Implement measures to deter unauthorized entry into the activity sites.

·       Ensure that timely and appropriate action is taken to mitigate child protection risks.

·       Monitor the functionality and adequateness of feedback and complaint mechanisms, their safety and accessibility.

·       Make sure that child safeguarding considerations are systematically taken into account in activity planning and implementation. Raises through appropriate channels of communication any child protection and child safeguarding concern that arises during the project period.

·       Identify problem and bottlenecks associated with the delivery of the program and timely inform the line manager, proactively participating to suggest solutions.

       Resource Management, Reporting and data collection

·       Manage, store and protect TLF material, equipment, and information.

·       Ensure that the space, the material and equipment are safe and appropriate to children needs according to their age, gender and abilities. Communicate with line manager of any damage or disservice to TLF space and/or material.

·       Ensure meticulous data collection on children’s attendance in the project, as required by the project rules, including the daily collection of registration forms at activities and the management of data.

·       Effectively the use community event planning and the community event report tools. Ensure appropriate storage and communication of relevant information.

       Networking and Coordination

·       Work collaboratively with TLF PSS facilitator,

·       Coordinate with Community base Activity supervisor in line with guidance from line manager

Qualifications & Preferred Skills:

Competencies: This function requires the mastery of Personal, Social and Leadership Competencies, Technical and Methodological Competencies  and Management and Strategic Competencies

In particular:

·       Be able to evaluate specific needs and to develop action points for individual protection cases.

·       Be able to identify the problems associated with the delivery of the programme and inform line manager, HR, logistics, and beneficiaries, in line with guidance from line manager.

Professional competencies

·       University degree in psychology, social science, or relevant field.

·       At least one year of professional experience in child protection, case management or other related area with a minimum of one year work experience with NGOs.

·       Good command of Arabic and Kurdish is essential. Knowledge of English is of added value.

·        Ability to work in unstable, uncertain or potentially dangerous environments, independently and in a team.

·       Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience using digital data collection tools is desirable.

Time and Activities Management

·       Willingness and capacity to work in the field and travel frequently to project sites when needed is mandatory

·       Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to work in a complex multicultural environment with different stakeholders.

·       Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills.
