ABOUT US:

The Lotus Flower is a non-governmental organization which empowers vulnerable women and girls so that they are safe, have opportunities to learn, the tools to become financially independent and the freedom to lead change. We provide safe social spaces inside refugee camps and implement projects to help them rebuild their lives and earn a living. We run four women’s centers for the IDP, refugee and host community in Kurdistan.

Our programs are based around pillars from the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals:

Our centers implement much-needed livelihood training, language courses, computer training, mental health support, fitness and health training, and awareness sessions and advocacy on women's rights and gender-based violence. 

We aim to provide the foundation for women to rebuild themselves, their families, and their futures. As local implementers, we work at the grassroots level to get right into the heart of communities, listening to local needs and employing local women to implement the programs. Our fundamental belief is that women and girls are powerful drivers of change, and we provide the support they need to reach their full potential and rebuild their futures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       In close cooperation with the M&E assistant, identify success stories among  beneficiaries and plan field visits accordingly to various areas in Duhok governorates.

·       Conduct field visits to pre-identified beneficiaries’ locations and collect relevant information (testimonies) along with communication materials (pictures) upon people’s consent as defined in the related TLF guidelines.

·       Draft and participate in the finalization of the success stories under the supervision of the Project Manager.

·       Maintain a record of all notes, interviews, and photo/video files.

·       Support the development of a media campaign and other required visibility material for the project in close collaboration with the PM .

·       Keeping regular communication with project staff.

·       Drafting and editing communications materials for project activities according to TLF visibility guidelines.

·       Preparing presentations and/or reports on project activities.

·       Drafting and posting social media and web content Helping to implement internal and external communications plans.

·       Maintaining calendars and appointments.

·       Tracking projects and media exposure.

·       Updating media contact lists.

·       Any other duties required to achieve the success of the visibility component of the project.

QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED SKILLS:

·       BA in journalism, international development, and/or any other relevant fields.

EXPERIENCE:

·       At least 2 years of general experience.

·       At least 1 year of relevant experience in journalism or communication.

·       Previous experience in communication in a humanitarian organization is preferred.

·       Previous experience in the protection sector is an asset.

SKILLS:

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·       Good English and Arabic writing skills.

·       Photography skills.

·       Capacity to work collaboratively in a team.

·       Ability to perform well on tight deadlines, flexible attitude.

·       Knowledge of computer applications, in particular proficiency required in MS Office.
